Caguas Puerto Rico man dies setting off Fireworks

A 21-year-old man died this morning in Caguas while dealing with fireworks, reported the Puerto Rico Police Dept.

According to preliminary information from the Police, Jared Rodríguez Calderón died when he set off fireworks in the Hato sector of the San Salvador neighborhood, in Caguas, Puerto Rico.

Rodríguez Calderón suffered serious injuries and was transported to a hospital in the area where his death was certified.

The man was allegedly using a “mortar” type device when the accident happened.

Several hundred related-incidents were also reported by the police and firefighters. It is estimated that close to $75 million dollars worth of illegal fireworks and pyrotechnics were used yesterday in the island. Also, several people were injured by stray bullets throughout the island during the first few hours of the new year.
