Two men were killed at noon today, Monday, at kilometer 86.2 of the José R. Dávila Monsanto highway, heading from Guayama to Salinas, after they were ambushed by gunmen, according to the Police Bureau.
The crimes were reported around 12:22 p.m. when (4) gunmen opened fire on the occupants of a wine-colored Kia Optima vehicle, as seen in a video that has circulated on social networks where the violent events are observed.
The interim director of the Guayama Criminal Investigation Corps (CIC), Lieutenant Willie Torres, indicated that the victims were traveling Salinas-bound, but in the middle of the ambush they collided with a highway fence, thus turning in the opposite direction.
“We are looking for a white Kia Soul, and we request the help of the public,” said Torres, who added that the scene is one of great extension.
Efforts are also being made to use the security videos of a nearby tollbooth in search of additional evidence.
A section of the PR-53 was closed to traffic from the Pozo Hondo neighborhood in Guayama to the exit to the Aguirre neighborhood in Salinas while the investigation was concluding.
The Guayama Homicide Division investigates the scene together with the prosecutor on duty.
