Secretary of State: “Beware of the US Postal Service”

“I’m going to tell people: beware of the United States Postal Service, because they cannot guarantee that your correspondence will reach its destination. That’s the message.” That was the warning made by Secretary of State Luis Rivera Marin after the US Passport Office again denied permission for Puerto Rico to resume operations following the destruction of Hurricane Maria.

He explained that the Passport Office refused to authorize the resumption of operations on the Island, due to problems with the Postal Service.

He stated that the Plaza las Américas Mall office is ready to operate, so he was confident that he would receive authorization to resume operations.

“The assistant passport secretary told me that they did not feel safe (to give the authorization). He told me the problem was with the Postal Service. He told me that they were in daily talks with the Postal Service and that they could not guarantee him that the book with the passport documents would be delivered safely to each person, “said the official of his conversation with the federal official.

The head of the Miami Passport Office, will arrive on the island this Thursday to hold a meeting on this issue.
