Federal Authorities arrest Puerto Rican couple with US Mail boxes

A couple ended up yesterday in the custody of federal agents of the Federal Anti-Drug Administration (DEA, for its acronym in English), after an intervention carried out by an agent of Highway Patrols on PR-53, in Ceiba, in which they they seized 12 blocks of cocaine hidden in toy boxes, which were inside postal service boxes to be mailed.

As reported by the Police, agent Luis O. Rodríguez Lebrón, assigned to the Ceiba Highway Division, was patrolling the PR-53 and when he reached kilometer 12.1 in the jurisdiction of Naguabo, he clocked at 81 miles per hour in a 60 speed-limit area a 2012 Toyota Yaris.

The driver, identified as Charles Merced Peña, 41, of Villa Mar in Carolina, stopped. Jasmine Altagracia Peña, a 24-year-old resident of San Juan, was in the car as a passenger.

Agent Rodríguez felt a strong smell of marijuana and required the services of the dog Siki, trained to detect narcotics, which is handled by Agent Aldarondo.

Siki sniffed the vehicle as positive and the couple were arrested.

Hours later, by means of a search warrant, mail packages were seized inside the vehicle, inside which there were toy boxes and within them 12 blocks compacted in rectangular packaging with cocaine. Additionally, $ 4,209.19 in cash was seized in the vehicle.
