🔺New SCAM: Caseríos are being listed as AirBnB’s

The Public Housing Administration is investigating complaints about the alleged rental of local apartments in public housing complexes (a.k.a. Caseríos) on vacation platforms, such as Airbnb.

“Federal statutes governing the Public Housing Administration strictly prohibit this practice. In addition, it is worth mentioning that this practice constitutes a violation of the public housing lease contract, which would lead to its cancellation ”, said the administrator of Public Housing, Alejandro Salgado.

The complaint was made by Clarissa Jiménez, president of the Puerto Rico Hotel Association.

“We have had situations where people have complained that when you arrive at the property, it’s completely different to what they saw when they made the reservation online. It has happened a lot, Jiménez said.

“There have been places in public housing, very dark places where there is no movement, different things …”, she added. “They have used apartments inside and near the public housing ones.”

Salgado reported that he requested an urgent investigation
