Governor Pedro Pierluisi today lamented the incident in which a tourist was attacked in the La Perla neighborhood, in San Juan, in the middle of an alleged controlled drug transaction. But, he affirmed that every visitor has to comply with local laws, because, otherwise, they are exposed to situations such as the one that occurred.
“Whoever comes from outside, should comply with the law, because if not, you’re exposing yourself to situations like the one that occurred, it is very regrettable,” said the chief executive during a press conference in which he announced the delivery of equipment from security to the Police Bureau.
According to information provided by the authorities, the incident in which Tariq Quatir Loat was presumed murdered, took place on Saturday in the La Perla sector after he and another tourist who accompanied him did not follow the warnings not to take photos after buying illicit drugs.
Pierluisi maintained that there is no justification for what happened, regardless of whether it is an attack against a local resident or a visitor. “Violence is never justified, but my message to those who come from outside is that this is a society of law and order, and here, drugs are controlled, they are not legal,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Police hope to begin today to conduct interviews in search of information to corroborate or discard the version that Loat and another tourist were attacked after not following the warnings not to take photos in the place after buying illicit drugs.
“The message is that:‘ Come to Puerto Rico, but there are laws that must be followed ’” added the Secretary of the Department of Public Safety, Alexis Torres.
