Puerto Rico’s health department has scrapped its ‘offensive’ safe sex campaign which promoted masturbation as a way to avoid becoming infected with Covid.
The Departmento de Salud’s poster used a suggestive image of a thumb pressed into a grapefruit and drew scorn from the island’s Catholic population.
Tuesday’s tweet, which also advised people to wash their hands and their sex toys, was swiftly taken down by the US territory’s health department which acknowledged that its graphic grapefruit image was in poor taste.
‘Although our only intention is to educate and prevent, the publication was offensive to some sectors of the population,’ the department said in a statement. It said it didn’t want the message to be lost by distractions. Read more>>
