Hundreds of citizens who were left without jobs, lined up since (since yesterday) waiting for the Dept. of Labor office in Bayamón to open in order to apply for unemployment benefits. Many of these citizens work independently or were left without a job because of lack of basic services like electricity, water or gas and their employers are unable to keep providing for them. The same scenario repeats in several cities and towns around the island. It is estimated that the benefit per person upon approval is $110 per month.
