As a result of Hurricane Maria, the situation in Puerto Rico has become so severe that some people are eating dog food, according to a journalist.
CNN correspondent Leyla Santiago, who reports to Toa Baja in Puerto Rico, said she spoke to the mayor of the coastal city and shared poignant details of the interaction.

Two weeks after Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico, more than 90 percent of the population still has no electricity and less than half have access to clean water, according to ABC News. Although relief supplies reached the capital, San Juan, it’s distribution throughout the island proved difficult, partly due to a shortage of trucks and clear roads.
