A Puerto Rican man who worked as an officer of the Federal Customs Service, at the Orlando International Airport, murdered his wife and two children, and then killed himself.
John Mina, Orange County Sheriff, identified the man as Ezequiel Almodóvar, 39. On his Facebook page, he calls himself using the nickname “Zeke”, he is a natural Puerto Rican from Bayamón and his family lives in Chicago.
The officer also reported that the wife was identified as Marielis Soto, 38, and the children were 16 and 12 years old.
Three days before the tragedy, the family spent a day at the Disney Animal Kingdom theme park. He even wrote on February 18 on his Facebook page: “Family time… we needed this… zero school; Free from work, no mess at work. Only family time and enjoying life through the eyes of children. I love you dear”.
According to Mina, a 9-1-1 Emergency Service call was never received.
It was friday, at about 3:00 pm, when agents arrived at the residence of Almodóvar to verify his status because nobody had heard from him for a while and since last week it was not known how the rest of the family was. As no one answered the door, they forced the entrance door and met the tragic scene.
Almodóvar’s wife worked in a beauty salon in Orlando. Its owner, who is Puerto Rican, informed the press that at the moment she could not discuss the matter because she was busy with several clients.
Preliminarily, the authorities classified the finding as a murder-suicide.
