Port of Ponce receives four energy transformers in complex operation

The Port of Ponce recently welcomed the arrival of the BBC Diamond vessel, which transported the first four transformers intended to supply clean energy to the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority (PREPA).

International Public Terminal (IPT) in partnership with VIVOT executed the complex operation. Along with the transformers, the approximately 1,291-foot ship delivered 291 boxes containing essential equipment for their installation.

María Caraballo, president of International Public Terminal (IPT), emphasized the complexity of the operation and the significant opportunity it represents for Puerto Rico to showcase its ability to manage such undertakings.

“The planning and successful receipt of this equipment demonstrate our island’s capacity to effectively handle large-scale cargo. At IPT, we combined our structure and resources with VIVOT to facilitate the arrival of the transformers, which will be installed in two solar farms located in Guayama and Salinas. This project exemplifies the efficiency and teamwork of more than 30 people,” Caraballo explained.

The solar farms will supply energy to the Electric Power Authority (AEE) through solar panels equipped with battery storage, thereby producing clean energy.
