All Eyes on the Gulf

A gale brewing near Mexico is becoming more likely to be a weak tropical storm off Florida by the holiday weekend. That means heavy rain for South Carolina.

The one bright spot is it might hold off for the Spoleto Festival opening ceremonies at noon Friday — just not for long.

A subtropical or tropical storm could form this weekend over the eastern or central Gulf of Mexico, specialist Eric Blake of the National Hurricane Center said on Wednesday. The center gave it a 60 percent chance of happening. Continue reading>>
