On Monday, appointed Justice Secretary Janet Parra Mercado declared that the Arecibo Prosecutor’s Office has brought charges against Reynaldo Valentín Rivera, 34, for purportedly mistreating his partner in the town of Manatí.
Prosecutor Ilia Reichard filed two charges against Valentín Rivera for aggravated abuse and illegally carrying, transporting, or using a firearm, in violation of the island’s domestic violence and firearms legislation, respectively.
As per the investigation led by Agent Patricia Aguilar Mercado from the Police Bureau’s Domestic Violence Division, the accused allegedly employed offensive language towards his partner during an argument. During the intervention, authorities confiscated a firearm for which the accused lacked a license.
Judge Francisco Santiago López of the Arecibo Court of First Instance found sufficient grounds for all charges submitted by the Arecibo Prosecutor’s Office and set bail at $10,000, which has been posted by the accused.
The preliminary hearing is set for January 29.
