---

On Tuesday, Governor Jenniffer González Colón revealed a new set of appointments for her Cabinet and various government bodies, featuring influential figures in vital sectors such as treasury, labor, economic development, sports and recreation, tourism, and transportation.

“This segment will be inaugurated today by the secretary of state and will commence its duties in recess, as the Legislative Assembly resumes activities next week on Monday,” the governor stated during a press briefing. “With these appointments, we are completing what constitutes the constitutional Cabinet, and tomorrow another group will follow. If we weren’t going to be here all afternoon, I would have introduced them all at once. I want to extend my congratulations to the new Cabinet members for their commitment to serving Puerto Rico and for taking on the responsibilities bestowed upon us through a government platform that guides our mission.”

Among those appointed is Ángel Pantoja, who will serve as treasury secretary. Pantoja, who has fulfilled various positions within the agency, played a pivotal role in the digital transformation of the tax system, known as SURI. “Ángel Pantoja has an outstanding professional background that will play a critical role in sustaining fiscal stability and in modernizing the Treasury Department,” González Colón remarked.

Nydza Irizarry Algarín has been named secretary of the Department of Labor and Human Resources. With over 30 years of expertise in legal matters and human resources, Irizarry has spearheaded significant reforms within multiple government organizations.

“Her vision for transformation and her leadership experience will be vital for enhancing Puerto Rico’s workforce,” the governor added.

The position of secretary for the Department of Economic Development and Commerce has been awarded to Sebastián Negrón Reichard. A Harvard alumnus, Negrón has a diverse background in both public and private sectors, with experience in Boston and Puerto Rico, as well as in the fields of banking and technology. The governor emphasized his dedication to economic growth and reforming permits as crucial aspects of her administration.

Héctor Vázquez Muñiz, boasting a 38-year career in media, has been appointed as secretary of the Department of Recreation and Sports. Vázquez has provided consulting for governmental initiatives and has been a prominent figure in sports event coverage, including the Olympics.

Other notable appointments include Willianette Robles Cancel as executive director of the Tourism Company. Robles brings experience in rebuilding communities post-hurricane and positioning Puerto Rico as an attractive global tourist locale.

“Her strategic insights will be crucial for the ongoing development of the island’s tourism industry,” González Colón stated.

Attorney Ángel Cruz Nolasco has been appointed as commissioner of the Bureau of Transportation and Public Services. With his background in the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority and heavy-duty transport regulation, Cruz will prioritize safety and regulatory compliance within the public and private transit systems across the island.
