DACO: High demand for TVs and pillows on Black Friday

---

Last week, Consumer Affairs (DACO) Secretary Francisco González de la Matta reported that his agency issued a single fine and received 16 complaints regarding early bird promotions on Black Friday.

The official mentioned that televisions, pillows, and security cameras were among the most popular items during these sales.

“Pillows are everywhere,” he commented during a press conference on Friday. “People are grabbing them two at a time, three at a time. It’s been quite significant. There are also security cameras and a lot of electronic items on sale. We anticipated a surge in sales, and that has been evident today, but televisions have been the top-selling product.”

DACO personnel were actively monitoring retail transactions at various locations across the island on the inaugural shopping day of the Christmas season.

“The current number of visits is around 130,” González de la Matta stated. “Out of these 130 visits, we’ve received about 16 complaints and only one fine up to this point.”

“The 16 complaints have primarily been about items not available on the sales floor,” the DACO leader pointed out. “For instance, one case involved a consumer searching for a bicycle that was on special with a limit of two, but it had already sold out. Fortunately, that store had ordered more bicycles, so the consumer was able to retrieve one from the warehouse. We’re witnessing a trend of stores ordering additional items, which gives consumers the opportunity to finally obtain the products they’ve been eagerly seeking.”

González de la Matta indicated that the fine was levied against a business in San Juan regarding an issue with a discount table.
