Yauco’s revamped Plaza del Mercado ‘feels like stepping into a grand museum’

Yauco’s Mayor Ángel Luis “Luigi” Torres Ortiz expressed his admiration for the advancements made in the renovation that honors “our heritage” at the updated Plaza del Mercado.

“The interior is absolutely stunning,” the mayor remarked about the plaza. “It feels like one is in a grand museum adorned with striking urban art, vibrant colors, and, most importantly, the rich history of our town.”

“The renovations are truly tantalizing,” he noted. “We remain committed to the rebuilding of the main structure, enhancing accessibility, and revitalizing the green spaces.”

The renovation of this remarkable edifice is aimed at vigorously fostering the economic vitality of enterprises in Yauco’s urban core and neighboring areas, and to infuse even more vitality into the urban landscape through a range of initiatives that Torres Ortiz claims “could be as vibrant as the Placita de Santurce in San Juan.”

“I assure you that our refreshed Plaza del Mercado will captivate you,” he stated. “It will be very appealing.”

“We are implementing a variety of aesthetic enhancements including new paint, updated lighting, the installation of industrial fans, and barriers to keep pigeons at bay, among other improvements,” the mayor added. “We are also addressing the facilities and the [surrounding] plazas.”
