In a hearing regarding government transition earlier this week, Justice Secretary Domingo Emanuelli Hernández delivered a report that underscored all the objectives accomplished by the agency during the current four-year term, 2021-2024.
The official emphasized that throughout the years 2021 to 2024, the Department of Justice has achieved and maintained a conviction rate of 94% in criminal cases currently under judgment.
This is accurate, Emanuelli Hernández pointed out on Tuesday, despite the legal requirement for unanimous verdicts in jury trials. During the same timeframe, 13 district attorneys have filed 85,969 cases in courts across the island.
Among the ongoing cases are those concerning leaders of significant criminal organizations engaged in violent crimes and drug trafficking, as well as intra-family offenses, according to the Justice chief.
