Potential changes in the legal framework for immigrants is the topic of open discussion

Recognizing that immigration is a pivotal issue in the campaign of president-elect Donald Trump and the importance of keeping immigrants in Puerto Rico updated, a complimentary informational presentation titled “Migratory Expectations Facing Potential Legal Changes in 2025” will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 4.

Maritza Varón, a Venezuelan lawyer and the event’s organizer, stated, “It is imperative for immigrants with Temporary Protected Status (TPS) to stay informed about legal modifications that could affect their status and rights.”

Trump’s team has indicated that his immigration plan might encompass actions such as widespread deportations, limits on asylum, and the abolishment of birthright citizenship.

The discussion organized by the non-profit groups Casa Cuba and Casa Venezuela will be conducted by Varón along with attorneys Sergio Ramos and Claudia Montoya.

This no-cost event will be hosted at the Casa Cuba headquarters located on Iris Street in Isla Verde, starting at 6:30 p.m.

“We will provide essential information about potential changes in immigration laws and their possible impacts on Puerto Rico’s immigrant community,” Varón explained, also referring to the event as an initiative that “aims to equip our community with the knowledge needed to navigate the challenges that may arise.”
