Mayor Ramón Luis Rivera Cruz of Bayamón, who leads the Incoming Transition Committee, revealed on Tuesday the timetable for the hearings related to the transition of Puerto Rico’s government, which includes the schedule for agency presentations.
The hearing process will commence today. Present with Rivera Cruz were all the Transition Committee members: Oriol Campos Hernández, Marcos Rodríguez Ema, Zayira Jordán Conde, Jorge Colberg Toro, Verónica Ferraiuoli Hornedo, Juan Zaragoza Gómez, César Alvarado Torres, Tere Riera Carrión, and Janet Parra Mercado. The announcement of Jorge Rivera López as the executive director of the committee was also made at the press conference.
In response to inquiries from the media, Rivera Cruz stated that the order of the agencies called to testify would be established based on priority and the relevant issues they address.
“The energy situation in Puerto Rico is pressing,” he remarked. “Energy is essential to the functioning of any nation worldwide.”
He also informed reporters that many members of the committee have begun reviewing the presentations to speed up the process and focus on the questions each member will pose to the different agencies.
The schedule is outlined as follows:
At 1 p.m. today, the hearing regarding reconstruction will take place, with the Central Office for Recovery, Reconstruction & Resilience and the Department of Housing summoned to appear.
On Thursday, at 8:30 a.m., the committee will address the issue of energy. The Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority, Puerto Rico Energy Bureau, and Public-Private Partnerships Authority are scheduled to present.
On Friday, at 8:30 a.m., the focus will be on infrastructure, with the Puerto Rico Aqueduct and Sewer Authority, Highway and Transportation Authority, Department of Transportation and Public Works, Integrated Transportation Authority (including AMA and ATM), and Infrastructure Financing Authority scheduled to appear.
Next Monday, the committee will discuss human resources in a morning session, with the Department of Labor and Human Resources, Office of Administration and Transformation of Human Resources of the Government of Puerto Rico, and Vocational Rehabilitation Administration set to testify.
At 1 p.m. on Monday, the agencies required to present are the Department of Public Safety and its bureaus (Police Bureau, Fire Bureau, Medical Emergency Bureau, Bureau for Emergency Management and Disaster Administration, Emergency System Bureau, Special Investigations Bureau), the Department of Justice, and the Department of Rehabilitation and Correction along with its Correctional Health Program.
On Tuesday, the committee will assess health-related matters.
The agencies expected to appear are the Department of Health, Puerto Rico Health Insurance Administration, Medical Services Administration, Automobile Accident Compensation Administration, State Insurance Fund Corp., and Mental Health and Anti-Addiction Services Administration.
On Wednesday, Nov. 27, the committee will address economic development in a morning session with the Department of Economic Development and its affiliated agencies and programs (OGPe, PRIDCO, OEP, PDJ, PDL, and others) expected to participate.
In the afternoon, the committee will delve into technology and telecommunications, interviewing the Puerto Rico Innovation & Technology Service and the Telecommunications Bureau.
On Monday, Dec. 2, at 8:30 a.m., the panel will explore education and school management, with the following agencies invited: Department of Education, University of Puerto Rico, Office for the Management of Public Schools, and Public Buildings Authority.
On Tuesday, Dec. 3, at 8:30 a.m., the panel will conduct fiscal hearings, with agencies cited being the Department of the Treasury, Office of Management and Budget, and Fiscal Agency & Financial Advisory Authority.
On Wednesday, Dec. 4, the agencies cited for the morning session include the Department of the Family and its divisions (Family and Children Administration, Administration for the Support of Minors, and Administration for the Care & Comprehensive Development of Children).
At 1 p.m. on Dec. 4, agencies appearing include the Department of Natural and Environmental Resources and the Department of Agriculture.
On Thursday, Dec. 5, at 8:30 a.m., the panel will meet with the Office of the Insurance Commissioner and the Office of the Commissioner of Financial Institutions.
