The airline SKYhigh Dominicana has begun offering a daily flight service between Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU) in Carolina and Las Américas International Airport (SDQ) in Santo Domingo, as announced earlier this week by Carlos Mercado Santiago, Executive Director of the Puerto Rico Tourism Company.

This marks the second direct route for the airline, following the initiation of the Santo Domingo-Aguadilla route last year.

“This new service reinforces Puerto Rico’s position as an air access center in the Caribbean, broadens the array of flights between various Caribbean locations, and enhances the appeal and accessibility of both destinations, making vacation planning more convenient for visits across the region,” stated Mercado Santiago in a press release. “The connections between the international airports in Santo Domingo, San Juan, and Aguadilla are a result of our collaborative vision to promote the development of novel travel alternatives and opportunities for those looking to take advantage of the exceptional service for which we are recognized globally.”

Mercado Santiago emphasized that the SKYhigh flights between San Juan and Santo Domingo are expected to create a direct economic impact of $5.9 million. The routes from San Juan and Aguadilla will add roughly 40,439 seats to the inventory.

Cesarina Beauchamp, executive vice president of SKYhigh Dominicana, noted that the SJU-SDQ route “is not just a new service, but a gateway to stimulating new opportunities for tourism and commerce between Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic.”

“Our daily flights will provide unique connectivity within the Caribbean, benefiting both business and leisure travelers,” she remarked.

Jorge Hernández, President and CEO of Aerostar, added: “For international flights, the Dominican Republic is the top choice for our passengers.”
