Over 2,479 roadways resurfaced in San Juan thus far

Since the launch of the Municipality of San Juan’s “Tus Calles Al Día” initiative in October 2021, with an investment exceeding $90.5 million, over a million tons of asphalt have been laid, culminating in the complete repaving of over 2,479 streets citywide.

On Thursday, Mayor Miguel Romero Lugo announced that the third phase of the initiative “proceeds with restoration activities to encompass approximately 584 roads in the next few weeks.”

“Indeed, this is among the most determined and comprehensive projects we have pursued during my administration to enhance and repair the streets in San Juan,” he remarked.

The initiative has covered over 851.58 miles in 115 neighborhoods and regions of San Juan and was executed in three distinct phases.

Recently, work has commenced in areas such as Montehiedra, the 2nd Extension of Country Club, Mileaville-García, and Domenech Avenue. This week, the Tus Calles Al Día initiative will extend to Paseo del Prado, Paseo Sereno, Floral Park, Caminos de Cupey, and Comunidad Hoyo.

Simultaneously, street work will initiate this month in La Colectora, Villa Capri, El Vedado, Urb. Roosevelt, Club Manor, Venezuela, and Capetillo.

The mayor further noted that “since assuming the municipal administration of San Juan, prioritizing the enhancement of our streets, avenues, and municipal roadways has been a key focus regarding infrastructure.”

“Caring for the streets of San Juan’s residents was a pledge I made prior to the 2020 elections, and I am delighted to report that we are on track to fulfill that commitment,” Romero Lugo stated.

Though the Tus Calles Al Día initiative was aimed at repairing municipal roads, “we have included state areas as we acknowledge the significance of enhancements aligning with our city vision, necessitating expansion beyond territorial boundaries to meet the needs of San Juan,” the mayor emphasized.

The third phase of the initiative will carry on with repavement efforts in the urban zones of Río Piedras as well as the Hill Mansion and Litheda neighborhoods, among others.

The initial phase concluded with an investment surpassing $32 million, with 969 streets restored using 244,161.95 tons of asphalt.

In the second phase, over $32 million was allocated, resulting in 890 streets receiving 621,279.67 tons of asphalt. For the third phase, approximately 584 streets will be included with an investment exceeding $24 million.
