25 Years in Prison for Stealing Power Generators or Fuel

The secretary of the Department of Public Security, Héctor Pesquera, supported today – during a public hearing – amending Senate bill 651 that would land individuals 25 years in prison for stealing electric generators and / or fuel.

The measure applies to thefts committed in hospital facilities, shelters, care centers and public or private schools. Also in potable water installations, telecommunications towers and properties of the state or federal government.

“We endorse any public policy that pretends to be as strong as possible with those criminals who, after a natural disaster or emergency, have the nerve to steal power plants and / or their fuel,” the security spokesman said.
