Universal Orlando (Florida) theme park announced that as of June 27 it will increase the minimum wage of its employees to $15 an hour, two dollars more than at present.

Some 18,000 current team employees will receive an increase based on the new rates and their time with the company as of that date, Universal Orlando Resort said in a statement.

“This is the largest salary increase in Universal Orlando’s history,” said the company, which is currently hiring thousands of full-time and part-time team members for the summer as tourism is reviving after the pandemic.

It is the first theme park in central Florida to pay that starting salary, which will apply to both full-time and part-time workers.

“We are excited about our future and we want team members who are excited to be a part of that journey,” said John Sprouls, Executive Vice President of Universal Parks & Resorts.

The idea is “to take care of both the members of our current team and those who will join our team. We know that a great guest experience begins with our team members, and we will continue to provide the best work experience we can, ”the statement said.

The park has openings available in call center, attractions, water sports, food services, concierge, warehouse, operations, merchandise and sales, among others.
