Next Monday, April 26, at 7:30 p.m. A new page will be opened in the history of telecommunications on the island, at which time the news program “ABC News Extra” will premiere on the ABC Puerto Rico channel. This will be the first news program directed, produced and presented by women in the country.

In front of the cameras will be three experienced journalists: Veronique Abreu Tañón, Milly Méndez and Liam Rodríguez.

“ABC News Extra is a novel space, being the first and only newscast mainly led by women. It will have local news, but also international news, where we will have sections on current affairs, sports, health and business, ”said Veronique Abreu Tañón, who will act as presenter. “In addition to that, we will have correspondents from the ABC chain of the most important markets in the United States. We will use a different, dynamic, short, precise format, with everything that is needed and required for people to be informed, ”the journalist highlighted.

The program “ABC News Extra,” which will run Monday through Friday at 7:30 p.m., will air the next day at 10:30 a.m.

For Abreu Tañón, who became the first female co-anchor of the WKAQ 580 station in 2019, this is a great opportunity that allows her to continue growing professionally. “I am super excited to participate in this project. For me, it is something spectacular and it is a great opportunity, “said the journalist who worked for more than a decade as a correspondent and producer in Puerto Rico for the Univision program” Primer Impacto. ” “Being part of one of the women who will be in front of the cameras is not only a recognition of my career, but a great responsibility,” she added.

Abreu Tañón indicated that each of the journalists will add their personality and character to the program, and admitted that, despite never having worked together, she feels that there is great chemistry between the three and there has been a spectacular dynamic within the group. . “In my case, I have been training for more than 20 years and I have managed to create a very strong shoe to be able to perform in front of the viewers and give the most correct and precise information,” said the communicator, who is also a lawyer. “In addition to that, I add my decisive signature of informing and seeking the truth, as I have always characterized myself. I am a frank, transparent person and that is what I am going to do. Likewise, seek the truth of the news and bring the information that people need to know, beyond what is normally said, ”she said.

Both Méndez and Rodríguez were already part of the talents of ABC Puerto Rico and had participated in programs such as “Primetime” and “Más, con Milly”. This last program, which will be replaced by “ABC New Extra”, will be relaunched in a weekly version this year.

For the television station, this new newscast is a sample of the talent that women have at all professional levels. “For this news concept, we are looking for top talent. The fact that this project is led by three outstanding women happened organically, ”said Pedro Rúa Jovet, general manager of TeleCinco, Inc., Parent company of ABC Puerto Rico, in a statement. Behind the cameras, the intention of the channel is that the positions of associate producer and editor are in charge of women, so they are in the selection process.
