The city of New Orleans, Grand Isle – Lake Pontchartrain Louisiana, and the Alabama/Florida border  are under hurricane warning due to the proximity of “Nate”. According to the US National Hurricane Center, the hurricane has strengthened while located 125 kilometers from Cozumel, Mexico.

Currently, the center of Nate approaches the northwestern tip of the Yucatan Peninsula with sustained winds of 95 km / h.

For its part, eastern Alabama has a Tropical Storm warning, which affects the border area bordering the state of Florida, exactly the counties of Okaloosa and Walton.

Nate was moving at 33 mph on Friday and is expected to maintain this movement throughout Saturday, when he is in the Gulf of Mexico, and then turn to the north.

The worst of this meteorological phenomenon are the rains, which have caused at least 22 deaths in Central America, where there are several missing, thousands of refugees, floods and damage to infrastructure and agriculture.

Nate will also cause the sea level to rise up to 1 meter above normal tide levels in the Yucatan peninsula and adjacent islands. Additionally, “large and destructive waves are expected” warned the National Hurricane Center.
