Puerto Rico still in Ruins after María


Puerto Rico suffered catastrophic damage and a major humanitarian crisis at the hands of the hurricane, including the destruction of its already antiquated and unreliable power grid.

While the simple solution would be to replace or upgrade the entire grid system, the current regulation forbids it and because of this, the Federal disaster agency can’t improve the grids – they can only restore it to the way it used to be.

As a result, mainland contractors are struggling to piece it together again as they’ve had to source outdated equipment, some of which isn’t even made anymore, according to the ABC report. Continue Reading>>
